Job summary

RGB in London is seeking a Highway / Infrastructure Design Engineer to join its multidisciplinary team in the capital. The role covers highway, infrastructure and active travel schemes from preliminary design through to detailed design and technical approval.

You will work with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and other design tools to produce robust designs in line with UK standards. The successful candidate will have consultancy experience, strong communication skills and a drive toward chartership, with

Qualifications

• Experience in highway and infrastructure design, ideally in a consultancy.
• Experience producing detailed designs for highways and infrastructure.
• Knowledge of Section278/Section38, with awareness of Section104/Section106.
• Understanding of DMRB, Manual for Streets and UK design standards.
• Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D; exposure to AVT/KeySign/KeyPost is beneficial.
• Ability to manage workload and deliver high-quality outputs on deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and collaboration across teams.
• Membership of ICE/CIHT or equivalent, or interest in pursuing it.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed highway, active travel and infrastructure designs.
• Develop designs from preliminary through to construction-ready packages.
• Prepare Section278 and Section38 submissions for approvals.
• Coordinate with water industry agreements and drainage requirements.
• Create layouts and models in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

The Role

As a Highway / Infrastructure Design Engineer, you''ll be involved in:

• - Producing detailed designs for highway, active travel and infrastructure projects.
• - Developing highway designs from preliminary design through to construction-ready packages.
• - Preparing Section278 and Section 38 highway approval submissions.
• - Working with Section104 and Section 106 water industry agreements and drainage requirements.
• - Producing highway layouts and design models using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and associated software.
• - Applying relevant design standards, including DMRB, Manual for Streets and LTN1/20.
• - Supporting drainage design, infrastructure coordination and drainage strategy development.
• - Preparing and maintaining technical documentation, design reports and records of engineering decisions.
• - Liaising with clients and colleagues across multidisciplinary teams.
• - Ensuring designs meet project requirements, quality standards and agreed budgets and timescales.
• - Contributing to active travel, sustainable transport and road-space improvement schemes.
• - Supporting technical reviews and the ongoing development of engineering solutions.

About You

To be considered, you should have:

• - Experience in highway and infrastructure design, ideally within a consultancy environment.
• - Experience producing detailed designs for highways, active travel or associated infrastructure.
• - Knowledge of Section278 and Section38 approval processes, with an awareness of Section104 and Section106 agreements.
• - A good understanding of DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN1/20 and relevant UK design standards.
• - Experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, with exposure to tools such as AVT, KeySign or KeyPost beneficial.
• - An understanding of drainage design guidance and infrastructure coordination.
• - The ability to manage your own workload and deliver high-quality outputs to agreed deadlines.
• - Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and multidisciplinary colleagues.
• - Membership of ICE, CIHT or an equivalent professional body, or an interest in working towards membership.
