We are looking for dynamic, flexible and adaptable individuals to join our nursing team, who have a desire to provide an outstanding service to the children, young people and families that access the services of East Kent Hospital University Foundation Trust.
This is an excellent opportunity to apply for a varied and interesting role rotating across both the paediatric outpatient department and acute inpatient ward at William Harvey Hospital, Ashford.
You will be supported in your development by the practice development team and in your day to day role by the Ward Manager and Nurse in Charge. This role may require you to work on other sites across EKHUFT to ensure the needs of the service are met.
This role covers duties within the Acute Children's areas, Day case wards and to rotate in to Children's outpatient areas. On the acute wards you will support the Registered Nurse to provide safe and compassionate care while undertaking some administrative and house-keeping duties to ensure the ward runs efficiently. You will be expected to support less experienced staff and monitor the quality of their work. When working in outpatients you will be responsible for the day to day organisation of the area, including maintaining standards in line with Trust policy, reporting issues and ensuring they are resolved/escalated as needed. You will be supported by the Nurse in Charge/Ward Manager.

Senior Paediatric Health Care Support Worker Role specific duties
This role covers duties within the Acute Childrens areas, Day case wards and to rotate in to Childrens outpatient areas. On the acute wards you will support the Registered Nurse to provide safe and compassionate care while undertaking some administrative and house-keeping duties to ensure the ward runs efficiently. You will be expected to support less experienced staff and monitor the quality of their work. When working in outpatients you will be responsible for the day to day organisation of the area, including maintaining standards in line with Trust policy, reporting issues and ensuring they are resolved/escalated as needed. You will be supported be the Nurse in Charge/Ward Manager.
Clinical
Work under the supervision of a registered nurse to ensure that patients individual physical, social and psychological needs are met.
Assist patients to meet personal and oral hygiene needs.
Orientate children and families to the Ward
Ensure privacy and dignity of patients is maintained at all times
Support the nutritional care of children and their families.
Assist with collection, labelling and dispatching of specimens
Undertake and accurately record vital signs on Vital Pac, following all escalation messages and reporting to registered practitioner. Perform clinical skills (once trained and competent to do so)- for example but not limited to-
Height
Weight
Temperature
Pulse
Blood pressure
Pulse Oximetry
Urinalysis
HBA1C and blood glucose monitoring
Venepuncture
Ensuring the ward environment is clean and uncluttered
Daily ward safety checks
Ensure the safe storage of medication
Support the Play team to provide play and distraction to children
Recognise change in childs condition and escalate appropriately
Assisting in the response to a medical emergency
