Job summary

BG&E Part of SYSTRA in London is seeking an experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead geotechnical project delivery, provide technical leadership, and shape practical solutions across rail, highways, energy and water sectors.

You will oversee ground investigations, design development and documentation while mentoring teams and contributing to business development and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in geotechnical design and site delivery at a senior or principal level.
• Degree qualified in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology, ideally with postgraduate specialisation.
• Chartered Engineer status (ICE) or Chartered Geologist (CGeol) preferred.
• Excellent knowledge of geotechnical principles, design practice and construction methods for complex projects.
• Proven ability to plan and supervise ground investigations and develop ground models.
• Experience producing and checking technical deliverables, reports and design documentation to a high standard.
• Familiarity with geotechnical software such as OpenGround, GIS, Leapfrog, Slope/W, Wallap, Repute, Plaxis and PDisp.

Responsibilities

• Take the lead in delivering geotechnical projects and work packages within schedule, budget and quality targets.
• Provide technical leadership across geotechnical activities from desk studies to design development and reporting.
• Prepare, review and approve design concepts, drawings, specifications, and related technical documentation.
• Lead development and checking of geotechnical calculations and parameters, communicating risks clearly.
• Coordinate ground investigations from planning to data review and interpretation.
• Support and develop teams of geotechnical engineers and technicians for quality and growth.
• Sign off deliverables as designer or checker and drive standards improvements.
• Collaborate with wider project teams to integrate geotechnical solutions into multidisciplinary delivery.
