Job summary

GHD in London is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead complex projects across water, transportation, energy, property and environmental sectors, while strengthening our geotechnical capability in the UK.

You will provide technical leadership, mentoring, and client engagement, ensure technical excellence, manage budgets and schedules, and represent GHD at client meetings and industry forums.

This is a high-visibility role for an experienced professional.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Chartered Geologist (CGeol) status, or nearing chartership.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in consultancy, contractor, or client environments.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary infrastructure projects from feasibility to construction.
• Strong report writing, technical review, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and project direction across geotechnical projects.
• Lead planning, delivery, and quality assurance of investigations and designs.
• Manage budgets, programmes, risks, and client relationships.
• Support proposals, fee estimates, and tender submissions.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and team members.
