Job summary

Assystem is seeking a Principal Layout Integration Engineer in the UK to lead plant layout development across Fusion and Modular Nuclear programs. You will provide technical leadership for layout, piping, building integration, and modularisation, while supporting project delivery and capability growth.

You will drive complex layout studies, engage in major reviews, and mentor teams to ensure safety, constructability and lifecycle requirements are met.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Extensive experience in plant layout, piping layout and multidisciplinary delivery.
• Experience leading complex engineering studies and technical decision-making.
• Strong systems engineering and interface management knowledge.
• Experience with design reviews and governance processes.
• Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and technical workshops.
• Proficiency with E3D/PDMS/Plant 3D and related tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead plant layout development from concept through detailed design for complex facilities.
• Act as technical lead for major buildings, systems or programme-level integration activities.
• Lead development of equipment, piping, cable tray, access and maintenance layouts.
• Lead routing studies and layout optimisation across projects.
• Provide technical leadership across multiple projects and programmes.
• Lead multidisciplinary integration and requirements-driven layout development.
• Define engineering standards and approaches for layout integration.
• Lead optioneering, constructability, and modularisation studies.
• Mentor engineers and support capability growth.
• Develop and review technical reports and client-facing documentation.
