Job summary

Tesco is seeking a passionate Frontend / Web Software Engineer to build scalable frontend systems and improve the customer experience. You’ll work with JavaScript, TypeScript, React and Node, delivering high-quality code and collaborating with product teams.

You will profile and optimise code, apply modern engineering practices, and participate in CI/CD, testing, and on-call production support. The role offers a supportive, inclusive environment and opportunities to mentor others.

Qualifications

• Commercial experience as a Frontend Software Developer.
• Best-practices regarding all aspects of web development including design, semantic HTML mark-up, CSS, TypeScript, and related technologies.
• Exposure to a variety of JavaScript frameworks and libraries such as: React, Redux, React-Router and testing with ReactTesting Library Jest, Cypress, Playwright, Jasmine, Enzyme, Mocha.
• Experience of using Node.js to create high traffic applications, e.g., Express.js, Sails, Koa or similar.
• UI performance best practices and accessibility standards.
• Integration of REST API and GraphQL endpoints.
• Readability, maintainability, and modular code; DevOps familiarity.
• On-call and production support experience; Infrastructure as Code.
• Lean/Agile practices including BDD/ATDD/TDD; collaborative teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement scalable frontend systems using JavaScript, TypeScript, React and Node.
• Profile and optimise code to improve performance.
• Translate requirements into tasks and code.
• Deliver high-quality code with CI/CD and automated testing.
• Commit code with proper version control and branching strategies.
• Automate processes and write secure, maintainable code.
• Implement project instrumentation and follow testing best practices.
• Collaborate with product stakeholders to translate needs into product improvements.
• Lead design discussions and work with Product Managers on domain understanding.
• Support production systems and perform root cause analysis; mentor others.
• Share knowledge and produce proof of concepts for new tools.
