Job summary

UKSBS is recruiting a Senior Finance Specialist for Swindon, Newport, or Stockton-on-Tees with hybrid options. The role supports the Finance Services team in processing financial transactions for government clients, acting as a General Ledger SME and leading client-focused activities.

You will drive process improvements, participate in major change programmes, and build strong relationships with SMEs and clients while ensuring accurate accounting and reporting across the organisation.

Qualifications

• A proven track record in a Finance based role.
• Educated to GCSE level, including Mathematics and English, or proven ability at this level.
• Excellent understanding of and experience working with double-sided accounting.
• High level of expertise in General Ledger accounting including all types of account reconciliation and complex accounting query resolution.
• Excellent knowledge of Finance process best practice and ability to represent Finance in major change programmes.
• Ability to explain complex accounting issues to non-finance stakeholders.
• Advanced Excel knowledge including working with complex formulas and macros.

Responsibilities

• Act as SME for the General Ledger area, supporting teams with complex queries, advice and training and dealing with client escalations.
• Carry out root-cause analysis to explain accounting, reporting and system problems/anomalies.
• Review processes for continuous improvement and implement changes to bring efficiencies.
• Input into system changes and major programmes, providing technical knowledge and managing testing.
• Take a leading role in client-facing activities such as year-end negotiations, meetings and working groups.
• Build relationships with SMEs, leaders and accountants across UKSBS and client base, advising on accounting processes and impacts.
• Support Head of Department and Operations Managers with strategic planning, ad hoc projects, investigations and audits.
