Job summary

Kier is hiring a Senior Estimator (Rail) to lead the estimating process from client documents through handover to delivery teams. The role emphasizes accuracy, contract pricing, and collaboration with procurement to optimise bids.

The role requires railway sector knowledge, strong commercial awareness, and proficiency with Excel and RIB Candy (or willingness to learn); remote work with travel to the office as needed.

Qualifications

• Degree or HNC in construction or civil engineering with a professional qualification.
• Experience as an Estimator with a major civil engineering contractor or as a Senior Estimator with Tier 2 contractors.
• Solid knowledge of railway sector work types, possession working and site constraints.
• Strong commercial awareness, knowledge of main Forms of Contract and excellent communication.
• Proficiency in Excel and RIB Candy estimating system, or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Lead the estimating process from client documents to handover to delivery teams.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of estimates, present findings at bid team meetings and reviews.
• Prepare structured items and quantities using measurement methods and pricing under various contracts.
• Collaborate with procurement to develop supply chain strategies and appraise quotations.
• Identify risks, supervise junior team members and support their development.
