Job summary

Energy Jobline CVL is recruiting a Senior Estimator for a leading UK main contractor in the East Midlands. You will take the lead on tenders for projects ranging from £20m to £100m+, driving accurate cost plans and competitive submissions.

You will manage tender processes, review drawings, prepare subcontractor enquiries, analyse quotations and mentor junior estimators while liaising with clients and the wider commercial team.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Senior Estimator with a main contractor background.
• Experience tendering medium to large-scale construction projects and refurbishment schemes.
• Ability to analyse drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Strong subcontractor and supplier concentration and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the estimating process on projects ranging from £20m to £100m+.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for new-build and refurbishment schemes.

• Support value engineering and alternative construction solutions.
• Assist with handover from pre-construction to delivery team.

Your new company

You will be joining a leading UK main contractor with a strong presence across the Midlands and an excellent reputation for delivering major, technically challenging construction projects.
The business has a secure pipeline of new-build and large-scale refurbishment schemes, with project values typically ranging from £20m to £100m+. Projects span a diverse range of sectors including Commercial, Education, Healthcare, Industrial and Local Authority.
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of opportunities, they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Estimator to join their pre-construction team, based from their East Midlands Region.

Your new role

As Senior Estimator, you will play a key role within the pre-construction team, taking responsibility for producing accurate and competitive tenders for major construction projects throughout the Midlands.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the estimating process on projects ranging from £20m to £100m+
• Preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for new-build and major refurbishment schemes
• Reviewing tender documentation, drawings and specifications
• Preparing subcontractor and supplier enquiry packages
• Analysing and evaluating subcontractor quotations
• Producing detailed tender adjudications and cost plans
• Identifying potential commercial risks and opportunities at tender stage
• Developing competitive and commercially robust tender submissions
• Working closely with Pre-Construction Managers, Planners, Design Managers and the wider commercial team
• Liaising with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers throughout the tender process
• Supporting value engineering and alternative construction solutions
• Assisting with handover from pre-construction into the operational delivery team
• Supporting and mentoring junior members of the estimating team where required

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this position, you will ideally have:

• Previous experience as a Senior Estimator or an experienced Estimator ready to progress
• A strong main contractor background
• Experience tendering medium to large-scale construction projectsExperience working on new-build and/or major refurbishment projects
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials and procurement
• Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail
• The ability to analyse drawings, specifications and tender documentation
• Strong subcontractor and supply chain knowledge
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• The ability to manage multiple tender opportunities and deadlines
• A relevant construction or commercial qualification would be advantageous
• Previous estimating experience across Commercial, Education, Healthcare, Industrial or Local Authority projects would be particularly beneficial.
