Job description

IT Services is the central IT department of the University of Oxford. It plays a critical role in enabling Oxford’s research, teaching and administration by providing the digital systems, services and expertise that keep the University running day to day and support innovation in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. Within IT Services, Software Solutions develops, enhances and supports business applications used across the University, working collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable, user-centred and continuously improving services.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Enterprise Applications Senior Developers to join us on a permanent and 2 year FTC. There is also an opportunity for an Enterprise Applications Senior Developer, App Modernisation on a 3 year FTC. You will provide technical leadership across application development, connectivity, maintenance, database design, infrastructure monitoring and software lifecycle activity. This includes supporting cloud-native workflows and endpoints using Azure Integration Services, helping connect Power Platform and Dynamics 365 solutions with custom backend application services and other enterprise systems.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a key source of technical expertise, driving development standards, mentoring developers and collaborating with Business Analysts, Functional Analysts and University stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous service improvement, reduce technical debt and support IT Services’ evolving delivery model, which focuses on user-centred design, agile working and measurable value for the University community.
Qualifications
  • Significant demonstrable experience of developing, maintaining and supporting complex business-critical applications, or equivalent professional training and experience in a computing or IT-related discipline.
Required Skills
  • Expert hands‑on development knowledge in at least three of the following: Dynamics 365, Power Platform, C# .NET, ASP.NET, SQL Server or Azure PaaS services, including Azure Integration Services.
  • A strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle, including data protection and information security principles across design, build, test, release and support.
  • Demonstrable experience investigating, diagnosing and resolving complex application, performance and database issues, working collaboratively with users and technical teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to empathise, listen, engage and explain complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organisation and task‑management skills, including prioritising, estimating, scheduling and taking responsibility for a varied workload with competing priorities.
  • A collaborative approach, with experience working constructively in multidisciplinary teams and supporting, mentoring or coaching other developers.
Pay range and compensation package

Working at the University of Oxford offers several exclusive benefits, such as:

  • 38 days of annual leave to support your wellbeing, with the option to purchase up to 10 extra days and additional leave after long service.
  • One of the most generous maternity and adoption leave schemes in UK higher education, offering up to 26 weeks of full-pay leave, followed by additional statutory and unpaid leave options.
  • A commitment to hybrid and flexible working to suit your lifestyle.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 10 August. We will be conducting interviews throughout this process and hold the right to close applications early should we find a suitable candidate.
