Placements24 is seeking a Senior Energy Storage Systems Engineer to lead the design, integration, and optimization of advanced ESS across grid-scale and commercial projects. This remote role supports a globally distributed team from anywhere in South Africa, focusing on battery technologies, BMS/EMS integration, and grid services participation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 6–8 years of experience designing/engineering/integrating energy storage systems.
• Deep knowledge of battery technologies and power electronics for ESS.
• Experience with BMS/EMS functionalities and integration.
• Proficiency in power system analysis tools and simulations.
• Strong understanding of grid interconnection standards for ESS.
• Excellent communication for remote collaboration.
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently in a remote setting.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and engineering of utility-scale and distributed ESS.
• Specify and select batteries, inverters, BMS, EMS.
• Develop control strategies for ESS operation and grid services.
• Perform system-level analyses: power quality, stability, thermal, safety.
• Collaborate with EPC teams for project execution.
• Develop testing protocols and oversee commissioning.
• Troubleshoot performance issues and provide timely solutions.
• Stay updated on battery chemistries, power electronics, and standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and share expertise.
