Job summary

The Green Recruitment Company is seeking a Senior BESS Engineer to act as the technical lead for battery energy storage systems across standalone and solar-co-located projects in the UK.

You will ensure design, procurement, construction, commissioning and operation of BESS with emphasis on performance guarantees, availability, energy retention and round-trip efficiency, collaborating with multiple teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in utility-scale BESS engineering (design, procurement, construction, commissioning, or operations).
• Strong understanding of BESS architecture: cells, racks, PCS, EMS/SCADA, thermal management and fire protection.
• Experience with grid connection studies and contractor design reviews.
• Knowledge of battery safety standards (IEC, UL, NFPA 855).

Responsibilities

• Define BESS technical requirements and sizing (MW/MWh, duration, AC/DC coupling).
• Evaluate BESS suppliers and integrate with solar PV co-locations.
• Support contract negotiations with technical schedules and specifications.
• Oversee design reviews, factory acceptance testing, site inspections, and commissioning.
• Monitor performance, availability, degradation, and O&M/LTSA provider performance.
