You will translate client requirements into practical, scalable solutions, supporting business development with technical validation and bid support.

Qualifications

• Degree in Automation, Electrical or Control Systems Engineering or equivalent experience
• 5+ years with EMS platforms, microgrid controllers, SCADA, PLCs/RTUs
• Strong knowledge of BESS, Solar PV, EV charging and standby generation
• Experience integrating EMS with Building Management Systems (BMS)
• Familiarity with BS, IEC standards and industrial automation

Are you an EMS and controls specialist with a passion for helping industrial and commercial clients optimise their energy infrastructure? Do you enjoy working at the front end of projects, shaping strategies, defining control philosophies, and turning complex energy challenges into intelligent, commercially viable solutions?

Nexos Group is seeking a Senior EMS & Controls Consultant to lead front-end engineering studies and technical advisory services for cutting-edge energy projects across the UK.

This is a high-profile technical consultancy role where you'll work directly with clients to define and optimise complex behind-the-meter energy ecosystems, integrating technologies including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Solar PV, EV charging infrastructure, backup generation, HVAC systems, flexible loads, and Building Management Systems (BMS).

As the trusted technical advisor, you'll bridge the gap between customer requirements and engineering delivery, developing robust control philosophies that maximise efficiency, resilience, and commercial value.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading FEED studies, technical discovery workshops and paid consultancy engagements for industrial and commercial clients
• Defining Energy Management System (EMS) architectures for complex multi-asset microgrids
• Working directly with clients to understand operational goals and translate them into practical, scalable control strategies
• Developing control philosophies, functional design specifications (FDS), sequence of operations documents, and integration strategies
• Defining how EMS platforms interface with Building Management Systems (BMS), ensuring seamless and conflict-free operation
• Establishing communication pathways and data-point mapping between EMS platforms, BESS, Solar PV, EV charging infrastructure, generators, HVAC systems and facility controls
• Supporting business development teams with technical validation, bid support and solution development for complex energy projects
• Ensuring solutions align with relevant BS and IEC standards and industry best practices

What We're Looking For

• Degree-qualified in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience)
• 5+ years of experience working with EMS platforms, Microgrid Controllers, SCADA systems, PLCs, RTUs or industrial control networks
• Strong understanding of industrial and commercial energy systems, including BESS, Solar PV, EV charging infrastructure and standby generation
• Experience integrating EMS platforms with commercial Building Management Systems (BMS)
• Knowledge of communication protocols including BACnet IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU
• Familiarity with control architectures, inverter communications, register mapping and distributed energy resource integration
• Proven experience delivering client-facing technical consulting, scoping studies and FEED activities
• Excellent technical documentation skills, including control philosophies, functional specifications and system architecture documents
• Understanding of relevant BS, IEC and industrial automation standards, including energy and control system applications
