Job summary

Nexos Group is seeking a Senior Earthing & Safety Consultant to lead electrical grounding and safety across industrial, renewable, and microgrid projects in the UK. You will champion design reviews, testing, and compliance from FEED through commissioning, acting as the technical authority on earthing strategies.

The role combines hands-on engineering with leadership, requiring a degree in electrical engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience specialising in HV and LV earthing design, grounding studies and electrical safety.
• Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or related discipline or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience in substations, renewables, and microgrid applications.
• Experience reviewing third‑party designs and acting as technical assurance.
• Excellent communication skills to translate risks into practical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Act as the business-wide authority on HV/LV earthing and electrical safety.
• Provide input during pre-FEED and FEED phases to identify risks and constructability issues.
• Review, challenge and approve subcontractor earthing designs and grounding specs.
• Develop safe earthing philosophies for microgrids and islanded systems.
• Oversee site testing, soil resistivity surveys and Wenner/fall‑of‑potential measurements.
• Lead earthing calculations and fault current assessments using recognised methods.
• Support project delivery teams and assist bids with earthing requirements.

Nexos Group is seeking a Senior Earthing & Safety Consultant to become our principal authority on electrical grounding and earthing systems across industrial, commercial, renewable energy and microgrid projects.

This is a highly influential technical leadership role where you'll act as the go-to Subject Matter Expert for earthing design, electrical safety, and implementation assurance. From pre-FEED and FEED studies through to construction and commissioning, you'll ensure projects are designed, reviewed, and delivered safely and compliantly.

What You'll Be Doing

• Acting as the business-wide authority on HV and LV earthing systems, electrical safety, step and touch voltage assessments, and lightning protection integration
• Providing specialist input during pre-FEED and FEED phases to identify earthing risks, soil challenges, bonding limitations and constructability issues before project execution
• Reviewing, challenging and approving subcontractor and EPC earthing designs, earth nest arrangements and grounding specifications
• Developing safe earthing philosophies for microgrids and islanded power systems, including neutral-earth bonding and switching strategies
• Conducting and overseeing site-based testing, including soil resistivity surveys, Wenner testing and fall-of-potential measurements
• Leading earthing calculations, fault current assessments and grounding studies using recognised methodologies and software tools
• Supporting project delivery teams by validating installation quality and ensuring compliance prior to energisation and commissioning
• Providing technical expertise during bids and tenders to ensure earthing requirements are correctly scoped and commercially assessed

What We're Looking For

• Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience)
• 5+ years' experience specialising in HV and LV earthing design, grounding studies and electrical safety within consultancy, utilities, DNO, EPC or industrial environments
• Strong understanding of earthing design for substations, industrial facilities, renewables and microgrid applications
• Experience reviewing and approving third-party engineering designs and acting in a technical assurance or client representative capacity
• Practical knowledge of islanded power systems, inverter-based generation, fault current behaviour and neutral-earth switching arrangements
• Expertise in relevant standards including BS 7430, BS EN 50522, ENA EREC S34 and G12
• Experience undertaking or reviewing site investigation and earthing validation testing
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical risks into practical engineering solutions
