Job summary

Ultra Intelligence & Communications Cyber (UK) Business is seeking experienced embedded/software engineers to design, validate and deliver high-assurance software for defence programs. You will work within a software team of engineers and contribute to architecture, coding, testing and integration across multi‑program efforts.

Successful candidates will have strong C/C++ and Linux background, plus OO design, MISRA awareness, and the ability to mentor others.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering, mathematical or science-based subject or equivalent experience.
• Significant experience in embedded product development (bare-metal and RTOS such as ThreadX, QNX or Linux).
• Embedded Linux development (kernel/driver).
• C and C++ programming experience.
• Experience with OO design and design patterns including SOLID.
• Experience with software testing and design for test.
• Desirable: Master’s degree in engineering/science.
• Experience with Rust, JavaScript, Node.js or React.js.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP and communications protocols.
• Experience with version control, CI/CD, and automated tests.
• Exposure to MISRA defensive coding practices.
• Advanced knowledge of software engineering practices and trends.
• Experience with DOORS, RSA, Enterprise Architect, UML and SysML.

Responsibilities

• Architect, specify requirements, design, implement and test embedded and/or application software.
• Lead software activities and provide accurate estimates for bids and projects.
• Mentor engineers and review significant technical documents.
• Contribute to security and quality processes across multiple programs.
• Manage security clearance requirements and compliance with government regulations.
• Collaborate with teams to deliver software across projects and phases.
• Lead technical reviews and drive improvements in tools and practices.
