Job summary

SSEN Transmission is seeking a senior Electrical Engineer based in Scotland to lead the technical governance of wound plant design and specifications. The role requires Chartered Engineer status or working towards it and deep expertise with grid transformers and HVDC equipment.

You will advise on testing, standards, and industry collaboration, contributing to a safe, reliable, and net-zero aligned transmission network.

Qualifications

Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Chartered Engineer status or working towards.
Expert-level experience in design and specification of transmission voltage wound plant.
Ability to assess issues, evaluate solutions, and apply design, planning, installation, operation and maintenance knowledge.
Strong knowledge of National Grid, British and European Standards; able to write specs and work instructions.
Experience in manufacturing and testing of transmission voltage wound plant is advantageous.

Responsibilities

Write, maintain and own technical specifications and guidance notes for electrical wound plant.
Review existing specifications and update based on project lessons and technology developments.
As part of Technical Authority, review test plans and supplier suitability for the transmission network.
Witness testing of transformers, perform technical audits of facilities and contribute to design reviews.
Provide technical consultancy across SSEN Transmission and represent SSEN at industry body events.
