Job summary

The Green Recruitment Company is seeking an experienced Head of Grid & BESS Engineering to lead all grid connection, power systems and energy storage engineering activities across the UK portfolio.

Reporting to the Engineering Director, you will act as the technical authority for grid and BESS matters, guiding projects from development through construction, commissioning and operations with a strong emphasis on grid code compliance and engineering excellence.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in grid integration, power systems or battery storage.
• Strong understanding of the UK transmission and distribution network landscape.
• Proven experience securing grid connections for renewable energy projects.
• Expertise in utility-scale BESS development and engineering.
• Experience leading engineering teams and managing complex stakeholder environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead grid connection strategy for utility-scale solar and BESS across the UK.
• Oversee relationships with NESO, TOs and DNOs; manage connection applications and compliance.
• Review power system studies and dynamic stability analyses; define standards and specs.
• Lead technology selection, supplier assessments and technical due diligence.
• Oversee integration of battery systems, EMS, SCADA and plant controls.
• Provide technical leadership across development, EPC and operations teams.
• Support planning applications and stakeholder engagement on technical matters.
• Collaborate with Development, Construction, Asset Management and Commercial teams.
