Job summary

Mitie Group plc is seeking a Lead Earthing Engineer to help grow our earthing and lightning protection offering across the UK. This is a field-based, nationwide role requiring travel and time away from home as projects demand.

You will install and test earthing systems (LV/HV/GIS) at utilities, wind farms and data centres, supervise on-site teams, and liaise with clients, architects and project managers to ensure safe, compliant delivery.

Qualifications

• Self-starting and diligent problem solver with teamwork capability.
• Excellent customer facing skills and professional presentation.
• Must hold a clean drivers licence.
• Proven background in earthing or lightning protection installation, service or maintenance.
• GCSE or O' Level in English, Maths and Science.

Responsibilities

• Install and test earthing systems for LV/HV/GIS facilities across utilities and energy sites.
• Install lightning protection systems on various buildings and structures.
• Liaise with clients on site and coordinate with architects/project managers on design issues.
• Ensure works are carried out safely, diligently, professionally and on time.
• Use earthing test meters and record site data; complete engineering reports.

Job description

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a successful security company who specialise in Security / Access Control Systems to some of the UK's largest Utility companies across the UK, to join as an ambitious Lead Earthing Engineer and help to develop the business during an exciting phase of growth.

This is a field based, UK wide role, so it is imperative that you are happy to travel /work away from home.

Essential Competencies:

• The candidate must be a self-starting and diligent problem solver, able to work both individually and as part of a team.
• Excellent customer facing skills and self-presentation are required.
• Must hold a clean drivers licence.
• A proven background in an Earthing / Lightning Protection Installation, Service or Maintenance role is essential.
• GCSE or ‘O' Level in English Language, Mathematics and a Science Subject

Role & Responsibilities:

• Installation and testing of earthing systems to LV/HV/GIS sub stations, power generating stations, CNI, waste to power plants, wind farms, Solar parks, telecommunications, Data centres, water industry and MOD infrastructures.
• Lightning protection systems to all types of buildings. ( Concrete, rebar, steel frame, traditional build )
• Liaising with the client on site and dealing with design issues with the architects and project managers etc.
• To ensure that works that fall within our scope are carried out in a safe, diligent, professional and timely manner.
• Generators/Current Transformers/Voltage Transformers/Super Gird Transformers/Shunt Reactors.
• Continuity/Slope/Electrode/Resistivity/Fall of Potential Testing
• Support to other areas of the business where required - Powerfence and Geoquip Technologies
• Use of earthing test Meters and Micro Ohm Meters
• Silfos Oxy/Propane Brazing and Exothermic Welding
• Completion of precise Engineering Reports and recording of site data.
• Ordering of components and equipment where required
• Responsibility for Van Stock / Replenishment and Stock Taking
• Competency in problem solving and an ability to make diligent recommendations
• Demonstration to Clients and End Users of completed systems or individual work(s)
• Provide training to other Engineers and Company Staff where required
• Arranging PAT / CAT and Meter Calibrations for company issued equipment
• Completion of Asset Tagging and Registration of Information
• Managing day to day site works / activities / RHII site staff
• Informing Earthing Services Manager of deviations from arrangements.
• Purchasing requirements for own RHII and occasionally other RHII Projects
• Ensuring a good standards of Quality and Efficiency at all times
• Arranging site meetings and surveys (when requested)
• Attending various sites for Pre-start / Commencement and Project Completion Checks
• Reporting defects, snags and complaints to Automated Systems Manager
• Reporting Health & safety defects / incidents / accidents and near miss situations to the Automated Systems Manager / Health & Safety Director
• Ensuring image and name associated with RH Irving Industrials Ltd are upheld at all times.
• Liaising with Client's representatives (as required)
• Verification of times claimed on timesheets and any other personal expenses.
• For monitoring site daily work activities and reporting progress and issues of concern to the Earthing Services Manager
• For ensuring that company management systems and processes are adhered to.
• Ensure that all works are installed and executed in accordance with the works specification.
• Ensuring that all Risk Assessments and Method Statements are adhered to.
• Ensure all appropriate permits are in place prior to any activity taking place.
• For promoting good practice of material sustainability (Reuse and/or Recycle) initiatives to reduce waste and save costs.
• For reporting to the Earthing Services Manager all defective materials and substandard quality/workmanship standards that do not meet the works specification/s.
