Senior Drainage Technician — Highway Infrastructure

Job summary

Leicestershire County Council is seeking a Senior Technician to join the Highway Drainage Maintenance Section within the Environment & Preventative team at Croft Depot. You will help manage works to maintain highway drainage assets, investigate and resolve flooding issues, and work with contractors on site.

The role requires a civil engineering qualification or demonstrable experience, strong teamwork, good communication, and IT skills including CAD.

Qualifications

• A BTEC Higher / NVQ level 4 in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification OR have experience that meets the essential requirement for the role and can provide evidence of continued learning and development.
• Experience of working in an engineering setting, in relation to design, management, maintenance or construction processes and of working as part of a team on civil engineering or highway maintenance projects.
• Experience of delivering projects and programmes of work to time, quality and cost and of collaborative working with key stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery of project briefs and of undertaking measurements of work, checking submitted accounts and monitoring budgets
• It would ideal if you had experience Interpreting and writing reports, producing and checking specifications and delivery programmes and following Quality Management Systems & working practices.
• Good knowledge of current highway design standards, construction techniques, or maintenance standards and of CDM 2015, primarily duty holder’s responsibilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical, planning and organisational skills and good IT skills, including use of CAD software and ability to learn the use of service specific systems and software.
• Skills to building positive relationships across stakeholders, peers and partners, creating open and transparent relationships based on trust. A customer focussed approach where the customer experience is central to the delivery of the service and you can adopt a flexible approach to workload priorities.

Responsibilities

• Order works to maintain highway drainage assets, investigate and resolve highway flooding issues.
• Engage with members of the public and stakeholders, working with contractors and operatives on site.
• Support the delivery of the Highway Maintenance Operational Plan and Local Flood Risk Management Strategy.
• The role may involve working outside normal hours and at locations beyond the base.
• Carry out measurements of work, check submitted accounts and monitor budgets.
