Job summary

Leicestershire County Council is seeking a Development Approvals Technician within the Infrastructure Planning Team of the Environment and Transport Department. You will provide technical administration support for section 38, 278, 184, and 219 processes and manage data/record systems while handling financial processes.

The role requires strong IT and communication skills, an interest in engineering/planning, and the ability to work to deadlines.

Qualifications

• NVQ3 or equivalent, i.e. BTEC in Civil Engineering or A-Levels A-C in relevant subjects, OR evidence of continued learning and development, plus extensive demonstrable experience as identified below.
• Knowledge of planning policy/ guidance/ legislation, highway design standards, construction techniques, asset management principles or maintenance standards.
• Attention to detail to ensure accurate recording of information
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise with customers face to face and on the telephone, and to continue to build on the credibility of the Council and its services.
• Good IT skills, including the ability to learn the use of service specific systems and software
• Good organisational skills and prioritisation of work to tight timescales. Ability to be flexible and adapt to change in a fast paced, customer focussed construction industry environment.

Responsibilities

• This role will involve providing technical administration support to the Development Approvals team, keeping and updating data/record management systems, providing administrative support, and managing financial processes.
• You will be responsible for dealing with highway adoption enquires from a variety of sources and liaising with relevant district and parish councils, or members of the public over development related queries and requests.
• You will also be responsible for providing technical advice on minor developer funded adoptable highway infrastructure delivered under sections 38/184/278 of The Highways Act 1980 and to ensure submitted designs comply with the Leicestershire Highway Design Guide.
