Job summary

Smart DCC is seeking a Senior Domain Architect (SMETS1) to own the technology strategy, architecture roadmap and governance for the SMETS1 estate. The role balances resilience, security, cost and business value while engaging with suppliers and senior stakeholders in a hybrid setup across Manchester or London.

Qualifications

• Strong enterprise or domain architecture experience in large-scale technology environments.
• End-to-end systems thinking across cloud, infrastructure, applications and integrations.
• Experience managing legacy platforms, debt, obsolescence, resilience and migration.
• Credible with senior and non-technical stakeholders and suppliers.
• Experience in smart metering, SMETS1 or large-scale regulated services is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

How you will contribute to transforming the smart energy network and shaping the future.

• Own and govern the SMETS1 technology strategy, architecture and roadmap, ensuring decisions support service sustainability, regulatory obligations and future transition and retirement planning.
• Lead architecture assurance across applications, infrastructure, cloud services and device technologies, ensuring solutions align with enterprise architecture standards and best practice.
• Manage architectural risk across the SMETS1 estate, including technical debt, obsolescence, resilience, security and cross-supplier dependencies, driving proportionate mitigation strategies.
• Review, challenge and influence supplier architecture, roadmaps and technical solutions to improve outcomes, value for money and alignment with DCC strategy.
• Act as a trusted technical authority for internal and external stakeholders, translating complex technical choices into clear recommendations based on business value, risk and operational impact.

What you need to bring:

• Strong enterprise or domain architecture experience in complex, large-scale technology environments, with ownership of technology roadmaps and architecture governance.
• End-to-end systems thinking, including experience designing and assuring solutions across cloud, infrastructure, applications and system integrations.
• Experience managing technology lifecycle challenges such as legacy platforms, technical debt, obsolescence, resilience, migration or transition planning.
• Commercially aware stakeholder and supplier management skills, with the credibility to challenge, influence and communicate technical decisions to senior and non-technical audiences.
• Experience of smart metering, SMETS1 or another large-scale regulated operational service is highly desirable and will enable you to make an impact quickly.
