Job summary

Checkout.com is seeking a senior engineering leader to own the Risk, Verification & Compliance decisioning platform. You’ll shape the product, strategy and architecture to deliver scalable, automated checks for global customers.

You’ll partner closely with Product, Risk, Compliance and Legal, leading engineers and managers to drive secure, auditable growth in a regulated environment. The role supports a hybrid working model from the UK.

Qualifications

• Experience leading multi-level engineering organisations (EMs and ICs) through growth and change, with a track record of developing leaders.
• A track record of transforming critical platforms while the business kept running: multi-year re-architecture, migrations, or consolidating several systems into one.
• Experience building and operating mission-critical decisioning or rules platforms at scale serving several customer segments.
• Experience in a regulated environment (financial services, payments or similar) where compliance, auditability and risk are part of the engineering problem.
• Deep technical understanding of cloud-native, distributed and data-heavy systems, including running ML models safely in production.
• Exceptional collaboration skills with senior cross-functional stakeholders (Risk, Compliance, Legal) to make clear trade-offs.
• Ideally domain knowledge in KYB, AML and financial crime, onboarding, or high-volume platforms; self-serve channels are a plus.
• Humility with a mission-driven mindset and ability to represent engineering in regulatory conversations.

Responsibilities

• Setting the technical vision and strategy for Risk, Verification & Compliance, including what to build once and share across segments.
• Building a decisioning platform that automates safe, human-free decisions and routes others to the right analyst with context.
• Making risk dynamic across the customer lifecycle with rules that evolve to ML-backed approaches.
• Making decisions explainable so customers, partners and analysts understand outcomes.
• Giving Risk and Compliance configurable dials, acceptance criteria and controls by cohort.
• Leading design and delivery of verification, screening, underwriting and monitoring systems that are accurate and highly available.
• Representing Engineering in regulatory, audit, scheme and partner conversations.
• Managing and developing a high-performing team of ICs and engineering managers.
