Job summary

Tesco Technology is seeking a Senior Security Engineer in our Detection Engineering team to lead the technical design of security-first infrastructure and deliver high-impact outcomes across a global retail ecosystem.

You will mentor engineers, translate threat signals into automated security capabilities, and collaborate with Security Operations, Threat Intelligence and platform teams to strengthen our defenses and ensure resilient operations.

Qualifications

• Delivery of production-grade security solutions from design through build, test, deploy and operate.
• Experience writing clean, maintainable code or scripts with scalable patterns.
• Experience developing custom detections and working with data at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and deploy complex, high‑reliability security capabilities that offer proactive visibility into Tesco’s estate and reduce risk to customer services and operational continuity.
• Champion secure, test‑driven engineering, including code quality, automated testing, peer review and repeatable delivery practices across the team.
• Identify opportunities and pilot AI-assisted and automation-driven approaches to improve detection lifecycle effectiveness.
• Coach and support junior engineers, building confidence in modern development practices.
• Work with Security Operations, Threat Intelligence, platform teams and product/engineering stakeholders to deliver integrated defences.
