Job summary

WCG seeks a Designated Safeguarding Lead to support safeguarding, child protection, and Prevent across sites. You will advise staff, liaise with external agencies, and contribute to student assessments, reporting to the Director of Safeguarding.

The role requires experience in safeguarding leadership and strong knowledge of Ofsted expectations. You will work with curriculum areas and support services, coordinating safeguarding across college leadership teams and ensuring compliance with

Qualifications

• Level 3+ professional/academic/vocational qualification.
• English language qualification at Level 2 or higher; willing to develop to Level 2 English/Maths in 12 months.
• Experience of working with and supporting young people.
• Experience of leading on Safeguarding in education settings.
• Experience of building relationships with students and parents.
• Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and guidance.
• Strong understanding of Ofsted framework and safeguarding in FE/skills settings.
• Travel to multiple sites as needed.
• Recent DSL training certificate or equivalent experience in safeguarding.

Responsibilities

• Manage referrals with safeguarding concerns and triage using internal reporting systems (e.g., My Concern).
• Provide advice and guidance to staff on safeguarding and Prevent matters.
• Liaise with local authorities, schools, police and health services on safeguarding matters.
• Assess information and make referrals to statutory bodies as appropriate.
• Contribute to student needs assessments and welfare discussions.
• Maintain accurate safeguarding records and prepare reports.
• Lead safeguarding for 14–16 learners and support off-site provisions.
• Deliver safeguarding updates and training to staff.
