Job summary

First Recruitment Group is seeking a Senior Design Manager on a contract basis for Heathrow. The role focuses on delivering the design across a major infrastructure framework, leading design management activities and ensuring delivery aligns with programme, budget, safety and environmental objectives.

You will manage progressively assured designs, coordinate with designers, subcontractors and client representatives, and maintain governance and CDM compliance throughout the lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or Engineering/Management apprenticeship with relevant industry experience.
• Chartered membership of a professional institution or working towards chartership.
• 10+ years post-graduate design, engineering or management experience in infrastructure.
• Rail infrastructure project experience beneficial.
• Knowledge of design and construction process models.
• Practical, logical, methodical delivery approach.
• Creative and innovative problem-solving ability.
• Extensive experience establishing and operating EDMS systems and design workflows.
• Strong technical management experience with ability to review design deliverables and reports.
• Understanding of technical concepts across multiple engineering disciplines.
• MEP knowledge beneficial.
• Experience drafting contractual correspondence and facilitating collaborative solutions.
• Procurement and contract strategy experience for design.
• Strong negotiation, leadership and teamwork skills.
• Excellent analytical abilities.
• Legal, contractual and construction knowledge.
• Experience implementing strategic objectives and managing change.
• Ability to influence stakeholders and drive outcomes.
• MAPM/MCIArb/MICW desirable.
• Aviation infrastructure project experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Undertake design management per Framework Design Management Plan.
• Deliver progressively assured designs on allocated projects and mitigate risks.
• Report on design progress and project activities.
• Support designer appointment and selection.
• Manage design consultant contracts and correspondence.
• Measure design progress against project programmes.
• Engage with client technical, engineering and assurance teams.
• Ensure progressive assurance of design deliverables.
• Robustly manage design change processes.
• Coordinate design reviews and act as final arbiter on suitability.
• Maintain design management governance requirements.
• Undertake technical and SHE/DRA risk reviews.
• Ensure CDM and Building Regulations responsibilities are fulfilled.
• Carry out additional duties per Framework Design Management Plan.
