Job summary

O’Neill and Brennan is seeking a Senior Design Manager for a major new build student accommodation project in South London. The role starts in a regional office and moves to 4 days on site and 1 day remote, within a live project environment.

The ideal candidate has UK construction qualifications and at least 10 years in contracting Design Management, with a minimum of 5 years in the Senior Design Manager role. Commutable distance to South London is required.

Job description

Senior Design Manager – Leading Tier 1 main contractor – Major project - London

This leading Tier 1 contractor has a potentially long-term freelance opportunity for a minimum contract of 9months for a Senior Design Manager, on a major new build project in South London.

For this Senior Design Manager role,you will be involved from the start of the project, based initially in the regional office of this Tier 1 contractor. When the project commences on site, you will move to being 4 days with the site team and 1 day working remotely or the office. The project is a new build student accommodation project of circa £80m value which is associated with another new education building which is well underway.

You will as a Senior Design Manager oversee the Design Management for the student accommodation project and have assistance of a Design Manager and document Controller. You will report to the Project Director and have regular progress meetings with the Regional Design Manager.

This Senior Design Manager position will be to support the current project team with all design tasks. Your initial task will be work on CDP and identify key tasks to be carried out. You will be working in a live site environment so you will need to quickly get to know the team and add support.

As a Tier 1, contractor you will have worked for leading construction companies and be familiar with processes and procedures. You will have worked on busy projects where your organisational skills have been a key strength.
You may also have worked with strong and experienced production teams and be capable of managing and challenging decisions whilst being skilled in communicating with different people.

A UK construction qualification is essential and at least 10yrs in contracting Design Managementand minimum of 5 in the role of Senior Design Manager. This role is ONLY open to individuals with the experience as above and who live in a commutable distance to the project in South London.
