Job Description
My Client is recruiting for a Senior Design Manager in the Water Sector. We are looking to strengthen our Engineering team with a Senior Design Manager based at our Falmer office near Brighton with hybrid working available.
You will report directly to the Head of Engineering, and your role will lead projects through their design phases for a portfolio of projects. To ensure cost-effective, technically compliant, and buildable solutions are delivered in line with all stakeholder requirements, programme expectations, project delivery processes, and engineering design procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be committed to excellence in Health & Safety (H&S) in design, complying fully with relevant local specifications, codes, rules, regulations, and all relevant H&S legislation.
- Ensure that H&S hazards are identified and managed, and that residual risks are communicated effectively to all stakeholders.
- Lead the Design team in delivering their responsibilities, ensuring a focused approach to meet customer requirements and project objectives.
- Be accountable for expenditure, drive efficiency, and manage overall design costs by producing deliverables within resource hours and key dates.
- Organise all elements of design, document in the Design Management Plan, and prepare monthly status update reports.
- Attend and contribute to programme, project, and technical meetings.
- Ensure technical solutions outperform on costs while maintaining quality standards and timely delivery.
- Provide technical support during construction, assembly, and commissioning stages as required.
- Ensure all technical work meets standards and specifications, following systems of work and quality assurance.
- Contribute to sustainability targets by reducing embodied and operational carbon footprints.
- Communicate effectively with partner organisations and disciplines, adding your own knowledge and experience.
- Provide exceptional customer service internally and externally, representing the business positively.
- Maintain confidentiality and a professional image in all contacts.
- Undertake other duties, training, or hours as reasonably required.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in multi-disciplinary design management, particularly in a design-build environment.
- Experience in the Water/Wastewater Treatment Industry.
- Degree in an engineering-related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status.
- Delivery-driven with the ability to set targets and motivate teams to meet time, cost, and quality objectives.
- Working knowledge of CDM regulations and construction H&S.
- Extensive experience in large-scale project delivery.
- Strategic, operational, technical, and management skills.
- Good knowledge of water treatment processes, civil, and MEICA engineering aspects.
- Ability to present technical proposals confidently and convincingly.
- Ideally working towards or holding an APM Project Management Qualification.
- Knowledge of BIM procedures and techniques is desirable.
