Senior Design Manager

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Senior Design Manager to join a main contractor and oversee the design phase of construction projects on wastewater treatment upgrades and resilience works worth £50m.

The company is an award-winning main contractor, market leaders in the water sector. Your role as Senior Design Manager will involve ensuring that technically compliant, cost-effective, and environmentally considerate solutions are developed during the design phases, along with technical assurance of as-built designs and variations. You will ensure schemes meet Client's AMP objectives and regulatory commitments, aiming for optimal costs and exceeding regulatory standards where possible.

Key responsibilities:

1. Performance management of the design team, including setting and monitoring targets related to time, cost, quality, and safety, with regular feedback.
2. Managing project programmes for design, emphasizing task planning and control within broader project timelines.
3. Collaborating with Project Engineers on technical design reviews and managing outputs through the design review register with designated partners.
4. Reviewing and approving designs, initiating project reviews as necessary.
5. Optimizing the design process by utilizing previous and standard designs and incorporating lessons learned.

Experience required:

• Extensive industry experience and a BEng/MEng qualification.
• Proven leadership and project management skills, with prior experience as a Design Manager or Principal Engineer in the Water Industry or similar sectors like Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Food & Beverage, Pharmaceuticals.
• Understanding of interactions between technical disciplines such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, and Automation.
• Good knowledge of P&ID diagrams.
