Morson Edge is recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established UK manufacturer specialising in safety-critical mechanical products and respiratory protective equipment.
Supplying customers across industrial, aerospace and defence markets, the business develops specialist engineered equipment designed to perform reliably in demanding and hazardous environments.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects, solving complex engineering challenges and seeing products progress from initial concept through to manufacture.
Unlike positions focused predominantly on CAD modelling, this role offers genuine involvement across the entire product development lifecycle, including mechanical design, prototyping, testing, manufacturing support and continuous product improvement.
You’ll join a specialist engineering environment where technical precision, practical engineering judgement and attention to detail are essential.
Take ownership of mechanical product design and development projects from initial concept through to production.
Produce detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications and supporting technical documentation.
Design and develop precision mechanical components and assemblies for safety-critical applications.
Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles, considering production methods, materials, tolerances and cost.
Support the development of injection-moulded, rubber-moulded, machined and fabricated components.
Develop prototypes, test fixtures and manufacturing jigs to support product development and validation.
Contribute to new product introduction (NPI), existing product improvements and engineering change activities.
Apply engineering quality and risk assessment techniques, including DFMEA.
Support product testing, evaluation, technical investigations and problem-solving activities.
Work closely with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve design and production challenges.
Liaise with customers, suppliers and external testing organisations on technical requirements and product performance.
Coordinate external engineering and testing resources where required.
Ensure designs and supporting documentation meet relevant engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
We’re looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong understanding of manufactured products, precision engineering and practical design development.
You’ll be confident taking responsibility for your own projects and comfortable balancing detailed technical design with hands‑on engineering, manufacturing support and customer interaction.
Experience taking manufactured products from concept through detailed design, prototyping and production.
Strong 3D CAD capability, ideally using Creo, Pro/ENGINEER, SolidWorks or similar software.
Experience producing detailed engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Good understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of processes such as injection moulding, rubber moulding, precision machining or fabrication.
Experience designing close‑tolerance mechanical components and assemblies.
Experience supporting manufacturing, resolving technical issues and improving existing products.
Familiarity with engineering quality processes, including DFMEA.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple engineering priorities.
A practical, detail‑oriented approach with the confidence to work independently.
A practical, detail‑oriented approach with the confidence to work independently.
Direct experience in respiratory equipment is not essential. We’re equally interested in experienced engineers from aerospace, defence, medical devices, automotive, precision manufacturing and other technically demanding industries.
The most important qualities are strong mechanical design fundamentals, practical manufacturing knowledge and the ability to take responsibility for complete product development projects.
Permanent position with an established specialist engineering manufacturer.
Early finish every Friday at 12:30pm.
Opportunity to take ownership of complete mechanical product development projects.
Involvement in specialist, safety‑critical engineering products.
A varied position combining mechanical design, prototyping, testing and manufacturing.
Direct interaction with customers, suppliers and external engineering organisations.
A technically focused environment where practical engineering expertise and independent decision‑making are valued.
