Job summary

ReeVR in the United Kingdom is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to own mechanical products from concept through to production release. You will produce detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings, applying dimensioning and tolerancing, and work with suppliers and internal teams to deliver reliable, cost-effective engineering solutions.

With at least 18 months of experience in mechanical design, you’ll contribute to New Product Development, testing and production

Qualifications

• At least 18 months experience in mechanical design or product development.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes (injection moulding, castings, sheet metal, extrusions, machining, fabrication).
• Experience applying DFM, DFA, FMEA, root‑cause analysis, material selection and tolerance analysis.
• Understanding of statics, kinematics, dynamics and supporting calculations.
• Understanding of gears, motors, drive systems or mechanical actuation systems.
• Knowledge of connectors, cables and ingress‑protected enclosures.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of mechanical products from concept through to production release.
• Produce detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings with GD&T.
• Apply DFM, DFA, FMEA and related quality principles.
• Support new product development, product introduction and value engineering.
• Prepare engineering change notices and ensure documentation is up to date.
• Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to resolve issues and support production.
• Plan and perform product verification, prototype testing and data analysis.
• Generate technical specifications, test reports and engineering documentation.
• Investigate issues, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Participate in design reviews and mentor junior engineers.

Mechanical Design Engineer

Are you a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer looking to take ownership of mechanical products from initial concept through to production?

We’re working with an established UK engineering and manufacturing business specialising in high-performance electromechanical components for highly regulated industries. Due to continued product development, the business is looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its multi-disciplinary engineering team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on technically challenging products, supporting new product development, improving existing designs and delivering practical, reliable and cost-effective engineering solutions.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll work closely with manufacturing, procurement, quality, testing and project teams, taking responsibility for defined products and engineering projects from concept through to production release.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

• Taking technical ownership of mechanical products, subsystems and engineering work packages from concept through to production release.

• Producing detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings, applying appropriate dimensioning and geometric tolerancing.

• Applying Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), FMEA and Design for Quality principles.

• Supporting new product development, product introduction and value engineering activities.

• Preparing engineering change notices and orders, ensuring technical documentation remains accurate and up to date.

• Working with suppliers and internal teams to resolve technical issues and support the transition into production.

• Planning and carrying out product verification and validation activities, including hands-on prototype testing and data analysis.

• Producing technical specifications, test reports and engineering documentation.

• Investigating product and manufacturing issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

• Participating in design reviews and providing technical guidance to junior engineers when required.

• Supporting production, purchasing, customer service and field service teams with engineering queries.

• Managing assigned engineering activities, identifying risks and ensuring deliverables meet agreed quality, cost and timing requirements.

About You

We’re looking for a practical and analytical Mechanical Design Engineer with solid mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment.

You’ll ideally have:

• At least 18 monthsexperience in mechanical design or product development.

• Proficiency in 3D CAD

• Good knowledge of manufacturing processes, including injection moulding, castings, sheet metal, extrusions, machining, fabrication and electromechanical assembly.

• Experience applying DFM, DFA, FMEA, root‑cause analysis, material selection and tolerance analysis.

• An understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, kinematics, dynamics and supporting calculations.

• An understanding of gears, motors, drive systems or mechanical actuation systems.

• Knowledge of connectors, cables and ingress‑protected electromechanical enclosure design.

• The ability to produce and check engineering drawings using appropriate dimensioning and geometric tolerancing.

• Experience supporting products through development, testing and production release.

• Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to make evidence‑based engineering decisions.

• Good communication skills, with the confidence to work collaboratively with colleagues, suppliers and external partners.

• The ability to manage priorities, identify technical risks and take ownership of assigned deliverables.
