Job summary

Hastings Direct in the UK is seeking a Senior Data Scientist/ Data Science Manager to lead a team of data scientists and develop advanced pricing and risk models. You will translate business needs into scalable analytics and drive value across pricing, data and analytics.

You will partner with senior stakeholders to shape data science strategy, ensure best practices, and deliver reproducible modelling pipelines.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of predictive modelling and machine learning techniques, including linear and gradient boosted models.
• Track record of delivering data science solutions with measurable business value.
• Strong SQL skills for data extraction, transformation and preparation for modelling.
• Proficiency with Python and ML libraries to build data science products.
• Experience using Git for version control and collaborative development.
• Ability to lead technical discussions and explain complex analytics to senior stakeholders.
• Experience working across multi-disciplinary teams.
• Experience reviewing the technical work of other data scientists.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of predictive modelling projects from problem definition through development, validation, production integration and monitoring.
• Master Hastings’ systems and processes to maximise team effectiveness.
• Identify and prepare new data features, evaluate their predictive value and impact on pricing outcomes.
• Build reusable, maintainable modelling tools, pipelines and development practices.
• Lead a small team of data scientists and support their technical development.
• Shape the team’s data science strategy and opportunities to improve capability and processes.
• Establish best-practice standards for modelling, software development, testing, documentation and deployment.
