Job summary

Hastings Direct is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead a small team of data scientists and deliver advanced pricing analytics in the UK. The role combines strong data science with Hastings’ business processes to improve pricing accuracy and customer outcomes.

You will partner with senior leaders to shape strategy, develop scalable modelling solutions, and ensure rigorous development, testing and deployment across hybrid locations in the UK.

Qualifications

• Deep understanding of predictive modelling and ML techniques.
• Experience delivering data science solutions with measurable value.
• Strong SQL skills for data prep and extraction.
• Proficiency with Python and ML libraries for product integration.
• Experience using Git for version control and collaboration.
• Ability to lead technical discussions and influence stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring junior colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of predictive modelling projects from definition to production.
• Master Hastings’ systems and processes to maximise team effectiveness.
• Identify and prepare new data features for pricing outcomes.
• Build reusable modelling tools, pipelines and practices.
• Lead a small team of data scientists and develop their skills.
• Shape data science strategy with senior leaders and improve capabilities.
• Help establish best-practice standards for modelling and deployment.
