Job summary

Rightmove is seeking a Senior Data Engineer in London to own the data platform and infrastructure that ingest, process and serve data across the business. You will design reusable patterns, work with a modern GCP stack, and deploy infrastructure with Terraform while guiding engineering best practices.

You’ll lead cross-functional projects, collaborate with data scientists and analytics teams, and promote scalable, secure data solutions on a hybrid model with 2 days in the London office.

Qualifications

• Strong track record delivering impact in data engineering or data platforms.
• Thrives in ambiguity and leads cross-functional projects to completion.
• Expert in Python and SQL with solid software fundamentals.
• Hands-on with GCP and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
• Experience designing data pipelines and real‑time processing at scale.
• Experience building CI/CD for data and infrastructure.
• Ability to raise technical standards and lead design reviews.
• Knowledge of GDPR and data security best practices.
• Familiarity with data storage, modelling principles and dbt.

Responsibilities

• Define the technical approach to complex data challenges and set architectural direction.
• Own end-to-end technical leadership of cross-functional projects.
• Design and build data platform infrastructure and internal tooling.
• Develop reusable data ingestion and processing frameworks.
• Manage infrastructure, security and deployment with Terraform and CI/CD.
• Optimize performance, scalability and cost of the data platform.
• Champion engineering best practices, testing, documentation and observability.
• Partner with engineers, data scientists and analytics teams for self-service data workflows.
