Job summary

Ohme is a fast-growing cleantech scale-up in London, building a data- and AI-first residential EV charging platform. We’re scaling globally with partners like VW and Mercedes, and we seek a Senior Data Engineer to own data products that power Ohme’s core operations and its smart energy platform.

You will design, build and scale backend data services, ingestion engines and APIs with a focus on low latency, reliability and product-minded thinking.

Qualifications

• Experience building data platforms and APIs on AWS and Snowflake.
• Strong IaC and Python skills.
• Experience with real-time streaming (Kinesis/Airflow) bonus.
• Background in software engineering with CI/CD, TDD, Agile.
• Comfort with Git and the command line.
• Knowledge of the EV industry is a plus.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will take technical ownership of designing, building, and scaling the data-driven services that power Ohme’s core business operations and smart energy platform. You will drive the engineering of high-impact data products, working at the intersection of data engineering, software architecture, and product innovation, you will ensure our data products are resilient, scalable, and delivered with low latency.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate: Work with data engineers, software engineers, the data innovation team, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver innovative solutions.
• Architect & Build Data Products: Design, implement, and maintain scalable backend data services, ingestion engines, and APIs (REST / GraphQL / Event-driven) that expose data across internal systems and customer-facing features.
• Automate: Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, especially AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK), to automate the deployment and management of data infrastructure.
• Product Mindset: Treat data as a product, caring about latency, API design, stability, user experience, and business impact.
• Optimize: Monitor and optimize the performance of data systems to ensure reliability and efficiency.
• Ensure Quality: Ensure data quality and integrity through rigorous testing and validation processes.

About You

• Proven professional experience as a data engineer building data platforms and APIs within AWS (S3, Lambda, Glue, Athena, Eventbridge, DynamoDB, API Gateway, Appsync) and Snowflake
• Possess strong IaC (preferably AWS CDK) and Python skills.
• Any experience with AWS Kinesis / Apache Flink or other real time streaming analytics setup is a bonus.
• Ideally, you come from a software engineering background and are familiar with common practices such as environment separation, CICD, TDD, and Agile methodologies.
• Comfortable working with Git and the command line.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a great engineering mindset.
• Knowledge of the electric vehicle industry is a plus.
