Job summary

Rail Delivery Group (RDG) is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to lead its Business Intelligence and analytics capability. You will shape Power BI governance, develop semantic data models and deliver trusted dashboards for decision support across RDG and the wider rail industry.

You will translate complex business needs into practical analytics, manage a small team including a contractor, and partner with senior stakeholders to drive transformation, automation and measurable value from data.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering analytical projects that support business performance and decision-making.
• Strong experience developing and governing Power BI reporting environments, including dashboards, reports and self-service analytics capabilities.
• Strong experience designing semantic models and reusable data products that support consistent reporting and trusted organisational metrics.
• Strong SQL and data analysis skills, with experience working with complex datasets.

Responsibilities

• Be accountable for the day-to-day development and continuous improvement of RDG's BI capability, ensuring analytical products meet organisational needs and deliver measurable value.
• Lead the development of RDG's Power BI capability, shaping its roadmap, governance, standards, operating model and adoption across the organisation, while promoting best practice and ensuring trusted, well-managed analytical products.
• Provide analytical support across RDG programmes and projects, applying data and evidence to support decision-making, business case development, performance monitoring, benefits realisation and industry assurance activities.
• Champion the adoption of Power BI across RDG through training, coaching, guidance and the development of best practice, helping build organisational capability and confidence in self-service analytics.
• Produce semantic models, self-service dashboards and analytical products that enable stakeholders to explore and draw conclusions from trusted data, applying strong analytical, data-modelling and visualisation practices.
• Independently identify and deliver transformation initiatives that reduce manual workload, improve productivity and increase the value derived from data across RDG.
• Manage and develop two direct reports and a part-time contractor, including workload prioritisation, performance management, coaching and capability development.
• Proactively present recommendations, analysis and evidence-based insights to internal colleagues, industry partners and external stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
