Job description

The role is part of the Credit Risk Function which sits in the 2nd Line of Defence and

is tasked with supporting the Chief Credit Officer “CCO” with credit risk decision

making activities, the ongoing development, embedding and monitoring of the Bank’s

Credit Risk Management Framework and to ensure Credit Risk activities remain

effective and relevant to the Bank’s strategic objectives and the prevailing external

economic environment. The role holder will be a Chair of Credit Approvals

Committee “CAC”, whilst also exercising a personal delegated lending authority.

The role holder will act as the primary point of reference and technical expert primarily for

Commercial Investment Real Estate, Specialty Finance and Asset Based Lending

activities undertaken by the Commercial Banking Franchise. This will also involve

being directly responsible for ensuring the adequacy and relevance of ongoing

resourcing, recruitment and management of sector specific focused Credit Risk

sanctioning teams.

In addition to performing credit risk sanctioning decision making

for specific transactions, the role holder will be responsible for the oversight of the

ongoing credit risk performance of the said specific asset class portfolios, whilst

being influential in the ongoing evolution and development of the quality of credit risk

analysis and presentation undertaken by both 1st Line and 2nd Line, providing

support and guidance where appropriate. Furthermore, the role holder will be integral

to the continued development and evolution of credit risk processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for leading and managing a highly performing team, working

collaboratively with the Deputy CCO and the other Credit Risk Team Head to

coordinate the effective deployment of resource across the entire Credit Risk

Function to ensure workloads are managed appropriately.

When required, take ownership and responsibility for the preparation and

presentation of analysis and findings relating to specific matters to various

internal and external stakeholders.

Identify, evaluate and formulate strategy and relevant action plans to drive

process efficiencies, harnessing automation where possible across the Credit

Provide constructive and informed challenge to 1st Line proposed growth

plans and any proposed change to sector risk appetite and policy.

Credit Sanctioning

Responsibility for the credit risk sanctioning decisions for a variety of

transactions, often large (<=c£75m) and complex in nature, across a broad

range of asset classes and structures, with a particular focus on Commercial

Investment Real Estate, Speciality Finance and Asset Based Lending.

Responsible for ensuring all credit risk sanctioning decisions, both personally

(either within individual discretion or as Chair of CAC), together with those of

the Credit Risk Team are appropriately considered in a consistently balanced

and duly informed manner.

Direct involvement with the preparation of any papers relevant to the role for

Approval, Noting or Discussion at the Bank’s various Executive and Non-

Take ownership for the successful follow up of outstanding Action Points from

any the relevant Committees. Act as a Member, or when required, as Chair of

Credit Risk Oversight Committee and Watch & Impairment Committee, whilst

representing Credit Risk at various other Committees as and when

appropriate.

Analyse, review and comment on the performance of each asset class

portfolio for which the role holder is directly responsible for, including

monitoring of associated Watchlists and Impairments.

Monitoring and reporting on compliance with credit risk appetite and
Quality Control & Assurance

Ensure each asset class the role holder is directly responsible for operates

within both its own Asset Class Policy “ACP” and overarching Credit Risk

Policies, identifying and reporting Credit Policy Exceptions as appropriate.

Oversight of the quality and standards of both 1st Line credit submissions and

2nd Line analysis and recommendations and / or approvals made within

individual Delegated Authority.

Provide direction and input into the 2nd Line Credit Monitoring reviews and

Credit Risk Policies

Work in conjunction with 1st Line in establishing and / or evolving those ACP’s

relevant to the role holder’s areas of technical expertise, whilst ensuring these

remain aligned to the Bank’s Credit Risk Appetite Statement. Ensure

constructive challenge is given where appropriate.
