Senior Contracts Manager – Civil Engineering & Water Infrastructure

Job summary

VGC in North Midlands is seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to lead civil engineering delivery on a major water infrastructure programme. You will oversee packages, manage teams, and ensure safety, cost control and schedule compliance.

The role requires a proven track record in heavy civils, NEC contracts and stakeholder management, with strong leadership and commercial acumen. A Full UK driving licence is essential for site coordination.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Contracts Manager or Senior Project Manager within civil engineering.
• Strong track record delivering heavy civils packages (earthworks, reinforced concrete, drainage, infrastructure).
• Water infrastructure experience would be advantageous.
• Experience managing multiple teams, subcontractors and concurrent work fronts.
• Strong commercial understanding and NEC contracts knowledge.
• Ability to interpret programmes, drawings and specifications.
• Confident leadership, communication and client management.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Oversee planning, mobilisation and delivery of civil engineering work packages.
• Provide leadership to project managers, site teams and subcontractors.
• Monitor programmes, budgets and resources and implement recovery measures.
• Work with commercial team on forecasting, cost control, variations and contractual notices.
• Manage relationships with client, principal contractor, designers and supply chain.
• Ensure works comply with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
• Coordinate procurement and allocation of labour, plant and materials.
• Review progress against milestones and provide operational reporting.
• Support resolution of technical and contractual issues to maintain progress.
• Oversee completion, handover and close-out of packages.
