Location: London/Hybrid – 2 days in our London office

Hours: Full time

Contract: Fixed term contract 18 months

We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Communications Manager to play a key role delivering a wide range of strategic communications that support the General Dental Council’s purpose of ensuring patient safety and maintaining public confidence in dental professionals.

About the role:

• To use strategic communications to build understanding, influence debate and shift perceptions, to positively impact the quality and quantity of oral healthcare delivered across the UK.
• To lead the external communications strategy and put audience insight at the centre of developing plans for what, when and how we communicate.
• To work closely with engagement, media, policy and operational teams to bring together insight and ideas to develop communication strategies, inform communication objectives, craft messages and lead and continuously improve a suite of products, content and channels.
• To work with senior leaders across the GDC and the external sector to understand audiences’ needs and how to meet them through communications content, channels and campaigns.

About you:

We are ideally looking for an individual from a regulatory environment or public-sector background who has significant experience of working as a senior communications professional within a small team.

Our new Corporate Strategy begins in January 2026 and the external communication and engagement is also being redefined, as a key enabler to ensure success of the corporate objectives. Insight and evaluation will be at the heart of our new external communications and engagement and your role is fundamental to this.

You will build relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels and develop a deep understanding of our audiences to inform communication strategies.

You will manage a suite of existing and new communication products, content and channels, and set a direction that increases our reach and ability to influence debates in the sector and the perceptions of stakeholders.

You will think strategically, and work across the team and with policy and operational colleagues to build support for communication objectives and activities.
