Job Summary

Join NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) in a vital Commercial role, where you’ll be responsible for ensuring compliance with Public Procurement Regulations by sourcing, procuring, negotiating and managing a variety of business-critical, complex commercial contracts and framework agreements.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities

In this role you will be using your analytical skills and an inquisitive mind, to pull together stories from raw data to help inform decision making and business and commercial priorities. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing a data and systems strategy to ensure the Commercial department has the right tools to work efficiently and effectively
  • Leading on benchmarking across DHSC, ALBs and Central Gov department
  • Developing and maintaining a variety of commercial dashboards in PowerBi with data taken from Atamis (e-Procurement system), Oracle and other systems
  • Maintaining the Commercial resource management tool to ensure efficient utilisation of resources
  • Leading on Atamis Health Family Data Quality Working Group and handling complex, sensitive information on a regular basis.
  • Providing accurate and timely commercial reports, including ad-hoc monthly, quarterly and annual reports on progress activity, and savings.
  • Receiving and interpreting commercial data from a variety of sources and providing management information to enable informed decision making.
  • Improve accuracy of the Commercial pipeline on Atamis, align with Directorates’ pipeline and ensure this is always kept updated.
  • Draw on a wide range of quantitative and qualitative evidence sources to undertake analysis and draw sound conclusions and insight from complex data.
  • Producing a monthly Commercial performance report for Commercial SM and carrying out any other duties within the general scope of the post as and when required.
  • Seeking opportunities across functions to rationalise and standardise processes to achieve efficiencies.


You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience and knowledge of Quality standards, ISO, Service Level Agreements, Purchasing Policies and Procedures
  • Experience of market shaping, strategic sourcing, purchasing, contracting and supplier and contract management in a fast-moving environment.
  • Experience in large scale contracting arena evidenced by contractual negotiated success.
  • Knowledge and understanding of large complex commercial contract negotiations.
  • Advanced use of computer systems such as Microsoft office packages, Adobe Acrobat, Oracle Financial and Commercial Systems.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and manipulate complex data and information.
  • Experience of designing and developing tender and contract documentation.
  • Experience of contract and supplier management.
  • Knowledge of legal terms and conditions.


Qualifications And Training

  • MSC in Procurement/Business/Economics or alternatively able to demonstrate equivalent level of knowledge & experience.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
  • Advanced Excel Training.

What We Offer

  • Starting salary of £46,148 - £52,809 per annum in accordance with AfC.
  • 1x full time secondment opportunity as a Band 7, and develop in NHSBT.
  • Opportunity to work with a national organisation and be based in Bristol Filton.
  • HSBT promotes flexible working opportunities where the role will allow.
  • 27 days annual leave (pro rata for part-time) plus Bank Holidays, increasing to 29 days after 5 years’ service and to 33 days after 10 years.
