Job summary

Blackman & White, based in Heybridge, Essex, seeks a Design Manager / Senior Design Engineer to shape CNC cutting machinery from concept through production release. The role combines hands-on design with project leadership and team development to deliver production-ready solutions.

You will lead a senior design team, manage multiple projects, and collaborate with production, procurement, suppliers and customers to meet time, cost and quality targets.

Qualifications

• Senior-level experience in engineering design & manufacturing.
• Proven ability to deliver production-ready designs.
• Experience leading engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor & develop the internal Design Team.
• Manage multiple engineering projects from concept to production release.
• Remain hands-on with detailed mechanical & engineering design.
• Produce & review 3D models, assemblies & production drawings using SolidWorks.
• Ensure designs are robust, cost-effective & optimised for manufacture.
• Manage prototyping, testing & engineering changes.
• Coordinate external design consultancies & subcontract engineers.
• Work closely with Production, Procurement, suppliers & customers.
• Ensure projects meet agreed technical, cost, quality & delivery targets.
• Drive continuous improvement in products & manufacturing processes.
