Job summary

Computerworld Personnel Ltd in Cheltenham is seeking a Mechanical Design Manager to lead and shape a high‑performing design team responsible for bespoke automation and special‑purpose machinery across sectors.

You will drive concept-to-manufacture delivery, manage workloads and budgets, and push continuous improvement while collaborating with manufacturing, controls and electrical groups to achieve engineering excellence.

Qualifications

• Previous experience leading a Mechanical Design team.
• Strong background in special‑purpose machinery, automation or robotics.
• Experience delivering projects from concept through to manufacture.
• Proficient with 3D CAD, engineering drawings and BOMs.
• Strong communication, planning and problem‑solving skills.
• Continuous improvement mindset and commitment to engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Mechanical Design team.
• Oversee the design of bespoke automation and special‑purpose machinery.
• Manage workloads, resources and project priorities.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to quality standards.
• Drive continuous improvement and standardisation initiatives.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing, controls, electrical and project teams.
• Conduct performance reviews and support employee development.
