An exciting opportunity has arisen within Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) and Ambulatory Surgical Centre (ASC), for a band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker (CSW) to assist with caring for patients within our busy and fast paced assessment units. Candidates will be expected to work a range of flexible shifts including night, weekends and weekdays.

Main duties of the job

This post will require the successful candidate to take a more senior role within the clinical support worker team and the candidate will be required to have competencies (or be prepared to acquire these competencies) such as venepuncture, cannulation, ECG recording, performing bladder scans in order to provide safe and timely care to the cohort of patients that we treat on SAU and ASC. The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership and guidance to junior CSW staff through mentorship and support. The candidate will also work closely with nursing staff, medical staff, administrative staff and ward environment staff to ensure that patients are receiving high quality care. In addition to this, the candidate will also be required to contribute towards the daily upkeep of maintaining a safe clinical environment. For example, ensuring that there are adequate stock levels, certain safety checks are completed and assisting in ensuring that the ward environment is clean and clutter free.

About us

SAU is a fast paced, busy, acute assessment area that treats and cares for patients requiring gastroenterology, urology and general surgery input. The aims and objectives of this service are to assess patients, make decisions on their treatment and intervention needs and admit/discharge as appropriate.

ASC is a relatively newly established ambulatory assessment area that is consultant led and takes referrals primarily from PCAL but also ED. The aim of this is to assess patients with emergency general surgery needs who are also mobile, independent and at low risk of any clinical deterioration.

We have a well-established, supportive and hard-working team on both SAU and ASC. As a team, we are always looking for new and innovative ways to improve the service that we provide and experience for patients and staff. For those who may have a band 2 role and are looking to progress and improve upon their clinical knowledge and skills

Leeds Teaching Hospitals is committed to our process of redeploying 'at risk' members of our existing workforce to new roles.
