Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Pharmacist based at University Hospital Crosshouse.

What you will do:

We are looking for a suitably experienced pharmacist who is a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic individual for this exciting role, where you will lead, develop and deliver the provision of prescribing and pharmaceutical care to the Ayrshire & Arran Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).

You will provide expert advice in pharmaceutical matters & promote safe, clinically effective & cost effective prescribing to this specific group of patients in primary and secondary care. You will also act as an independent prescriber within the CAMHS outpatient setting in accordance with service demands and liaise with health care professionals around the ongoing care of these patients.

This post will also provide a highly specialist clinical pharmacy service to specified child and adolescent patients with mental health disorders within the National Secure Adolescent Inpatient Service (NSAIS) unit when it becomes operational.

As well as providing a highly specialist clinical pharmacy service to this group of patients, you will also contribute to the wider development, evaluation and improvement of pharmaceutical services to CAMHS patients, including the implementation of relevant mental health legislation. You will also be accountable for the safe and cost effective use of medicines within the designated clinical areas & also promote the development of local initiatives to improve medicines management in NHS Ayrshire & Arran.

You will also work closely with the primary care team to identify and prioritise key prescribing indicators around the CAMHS prescribing agenda & develop & participate in plans for joint working on any areas identified to ensure the safe, appropriate and cost effective use of medicines. In addition you should have a passion for providing high quality care to patients and the ability to build strong, professional relationships with the wider multi-disciplinary team and hospital and community pharmacy colleagues.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

You will have a key role within the mental health pharmacy team and will require strong team management and leadership skills. The post requires an ability to work autonomously & be responsible for your own outcomes whilst being innovative and forward thinking to clinical & service developments. This will require self- direction, confidence and problem solving skills.

Good communication, organisational and IT skills along with the ability to work with patients and other healthcare professionals will also be essential. Previous mental health experience would also be desirable but not essential.

You will have substantial experience as a qualified pharmacist, be registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council, be an independent prescriber, and hold a postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy (or be able to demonstrate equivalent competence).

The post requires full PVG Scheme membership/Disclosure Scotland.

Hours:

22.2 hours per week.
