Job summary

AECOM in Manchester is seeking a Senior/Principal Civil Engineer to join our growing Water team. You will deliver high-impact water projects across the UK, leading design, reporting, and stakeholder engagement within a collaborative multidisciplinary group.

The role offers technical leadership, opportunities to mentor early-career colleagues, and clear paths for progression and professional development within a large global firm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered or Incorporated with ICE/CIWEM or working towards.
• Experience in the water sector at Principal level.
• Proven experience delivering engineering assessments, options appraisals and calculations.
• Experience in outline and/or detailed design of wastewater/water treatment schemes.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers, modellers, environmental scientists and specialists to deliver water projects.
• Contribute across all design stages from concept to detailed design and reporting.
• Apply practical thinking to solve engineering challenges in water/wastewater.
• Ensure designs meet standards, regulations and best practice.
• Lead technical delivery of key projects and review work by others.
• Manage project scope, budget and timelines.
• Build strong client relationships and provide regular updates and guidance.
• Mentor and support early-career professionals in the team.
