Job summary

Binnies (part of the RSK Group) is seeking a Principal Civil Design Engineer / Engineering Manager to lead its Birmingham-based civil team. The role focuses on delivering high-quality water and wastewater infrastructure while acting as a technical authority across projects.

The successful candidate will mentor engineers, drive design excellence, and contribute to standards and best practices within a collaborative design environment. Hybrid/flexible working is available.

Qualifications

• Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng) or equivalent experience, working towards chartership.
• Proven experience delivering outline and detailed design in the water or wastewater sector.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary and remote resources.
• Strong technical judgement and clear, pragmatic communication.
• Passion for mentoring and developing engineers.

Responsibilities

• Act as the civil engineering subject matter expert across multiple projects.
• Lead and review complex designs, calculations, reports, and specifications.
• Provide technical assurance and problem-solving support to project teams.
• Be the first point of contact for civil engineering technical queries.
• Support the development and application of standards, tools, and best practice.
• Mentor and develop graduate, junior, and apprentice engineers.
• Contribute to design reviews, risk management, and value engineering.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and clients.
• Support cost, programme, and quality objectives through sound technical decision-making.

About the Role

Following major AMP8 framework wins and continued growth across UK water companies, Binnies (part of the RSK Group) is expanding its UK Water Services capability. We are seeking a Chartered Civil Engineer to provide technical leadership and lead our Birmingham-based civil engineering team.

This role suits an experienced engineer who enjoys being a technical authority and subject matter expert, while also mentoring and developing engineers within a collaborative design environment.
