Job summary

Binnies is seeking a Chartered Civil Engineer to provide technical leadership and head our Birmingham-based civil engineering team. The role is suitable for a candidate who enjoys acting as a technical authority while mentoring others within a collaborative design environment.

You'll deliver high-quality, sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure solutions and strengthen technical capability across the business, with travel to Birmingham as needed for project delivery.

Qualifications

• Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng) or equivalent experience, working towards chartership.
• Proven experience delivering outline and detailed design in the water or wastewater sector.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary and remote resources.
• Strong technical judgement and clear, pragmatic communication.
• Mentoring and developing engineers is valued.
• Experience across infra and non-infra water projects.
• Familiarity with UK water industry design standards and assurance processes.
• Experience coordinating overseas resources.
• Involvement in technical communities or innovation initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Act as the civil engineering subject matter expert across multiple projects.
• Lead and review complex designs, calculations, reports, and specifications.
• Provide technical assurance and problem-solving support to project teams.
• Be the first point of contact for civil engineering technical queries.
• Support the development and application of standards, tools, and best practice.
• Mentor and develop graduate, junior, and apprentice engineers.
• Contribute to design reviews, risk management, and value engineering.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and clients.
• Support cost, programme, and quality objectives through sound technical decision-making.
