About the role…

We are currently recruiting for Senior Technicians to join our UK wide Water Design Team. The positions are required to support our expanding Water Utilities workload and will typically involve providing designs for water and wastewater, infrastructure, and non-infrastructure projects as part of a multi-disciplinary design team. This will include design delivery at all stages, from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed designs for construction and commissioning.

The specific roles are required primarily to support our long-term frameworks with Northumbrian Water Group, Severn Trent Water and United Utilities. There will be additional opportunities to work on other projects and frameworks throughout the UK for a variety of clients including Scottish Water and Edinburgh Airport.

This is a permanent position and will be of a hybrid nature ideally based in or around any of our Glasgow, Durham or Birmingham offices; however, other locations or alternative ways of working would be given due consideration. With the additional travel, you must have a full UK driving license.

What will your day look like…

  • Work to appropriate project controls, guidelines and procedures.
  • Support the design team and other team members in undertaking a wide range of design related tasks.
  • Produce design outputs in accordance with the company and client CAD procedures and standards.
  • Have an understanding of BIM on a project and be able to lead on its implementation.
  • Supervise Technicians and Trainee Technicians where necessary.
  • Be familiar with water and wastewater, infrastructure and non-infrastructure design techniques and solutions.
  • Understand the structure and activities of the business.
  • Have a basic knowledge of our clients and the water market in general.
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Understand the importance of delivering to programme and notifying the design lead when issues that affect delivery arise.
  • Understand and use the relevant Quality Management System processes and procedures throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations.

About you…

  • A relevant degree qualification or have completed a learning agreement/apprenticeship and obtained a relevant technical qualification (HNC, HND etc.).
  • A basic understanding of the design of water/wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure works, but open to learn if coming from another civil engineering background with appropriate experience.
  • Open and flexible to use Autodesk packages aligned to project needs.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit & Navisworks, specialising in either Civil 3D or Revit.
  • Have the adaptability and understanding to help in the upskilling of people and development of software families or parts lists.
  • Computer literate and conversant with the MS Office suite.
  • Strong written and oral communication and organisational skills and to produce reports in clear concise English.
  • Proven ability to work within a team environment with the right temperament and dedicated approach to meet project deadlines.
  • Client focused approach to service delivery.
  • Self-motivated with the drive to achieve continuous improvement targets.
  • Strong health & safety focus.
  • Positive attitude in taking advantage of software learning and training materials in problem solving.

Please note that candidates with qualifications that do not fully match the above criteria but have relevant equivalent experience are invited to apply.
