Job summary

Creative Assembly in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior Build Tools Engineer to drive the evolution of multi-project build pipelines, CI, and tooling across Total War development teams. You will lead initiatives, shape standards, and mentor colleagues while delivering reliable automation for console and PC platforms.

The role blends hands-on coding in C++ and C#, with systems design and a focus on developer productivity.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, operating and improving build systems at scale.
• Proficient in C++ and C# or scripting languages.
• Deep debugging skills across complex multi-component systems.
• Experience with console automation (PS5/Xbox).
• Experience with online store APIs (e.g. Steam/MS).
• Familiarity with Perforce or similar version control systems in large teams.
• Familiarity with branching strategies in large-scale, multi-project environments.
• Strong communication skills with engineering leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own and drive the evolution of CA’s multi-project build pipelines across all platforms.
• Define and drive improvements in CI reliability, error detection and logging standards.
• Strengthen deployment pipelines to deliver builds to internal teams and external platforms.
• Design, build and maintain backend services like build storage, symbol servers and dashboards.
• Write production-ready code in C++ and C#, focusing on maintainability and tests.
• Join rotating weekly support to triage build/test issues across infrastructure channels.
• Establish metrics and dashboards to surface issues and track reliability trends.
• Identify bottlenecks in hardware utilisation, storage, and CI capacity, and address them.
• Support engineers with knowledge sharing, docs, and best practices.
• Collaborate with test automation to integrate quality gates into CI workflows.
