Job summary

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust seeks an experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist to join the Microbiology Department at Bedford Hospital on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. The role involves maintaining quality standards, staff training and service development within a UKAS-accredited, IBMS-approved training laboratory.

You will work with the Laboratory Manager and Senior Management Team to ensure a high-quality, safe microbiology service across Bedford Hospital, Luton

Qualifications

• BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.
• Masters degree or related professional health care qualification or equivalent.
• HCPC registration is required.
• IBMS certificate in Expert Practice in Quality Management is desirable.

Responsibilities

• To work as a HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist, contributing to safe and efficient diagnostic services.
• Support Laboratory Management in delivering a cohesive, high-quality service across the department.
• Support implementation of Quality Policy and quality objectives, ensuring compliance.
• Contribute to UKAS standards and ISO 15189 compliance within the quality management system.
• Assist with action plans to address non-conformities from audits and incidents.
• Follow SOPs using Q-Pulse Document Management Module and ensure approval processes.
• Lead development, review and implementation of SOPs for the department.
• Support day-to-day quality processes and staff training across grades.
• Promote continuous quality improvement for safe, patient-focused laboratory services.
