Job summary

Illumina is seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist to advance genomic analysis within a hybrid or remote UK role. You will design algorithms, develop production software in C/C++, and collaborate with software, FPGA, QA, and clinical genomics teams to deliver end-to-end workflows on DRAGEN and ICA platforms.

You bring a strong background in genomics, statistics and algorithm development, with a Master’s or PhD and experience delivering scalable solutions for complex datasets.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Bioinformatics or related field with relevant experience.
• Strong foundation in genomics, sequencing technologies and secondary analysis methods.
• Experience translating computational methods into production-grade software.
• Proficiency in C/C++ or similar high-performance languages and scalable software development.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement novel algorithms to extract biological signal from sequencing data.
• Develop high-performance production software using C/C++ and related tools.
• Integrate analysis workflows with DRAGEN, ICA and cross-functional teams.
• Collaborate with software, FPGA, QA, and clinical genomics teams to deliver end-to-end workflows.
• Communicate results clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
